Pongola Nature Reserve uPhongolo or Pongola is situated in the foothills of the Lebombo Mountains. In 1874 President Kruger proclaimed the Pongola Game Reserve, the first ever reserve in Africa. The Pongola River runs through the centre of the reserve. The Pongola area has 4 of the Big Five (excluding only Lion) and many game species. Pongolapoort Dam in the Phongolo River, KZN (Sometimes called Jozini dam) is the fifth biggest dams in South Africa. It has a Full Storage Capacity of 2267 million cubic meters and the prime Tiger fishing area in SA, and visitors can do game viewing from the water.
