I briefly mentioned in my Favourite Swims article the amazing results I have achieved over the years with the KD rig, and although I would have loved to be the originator of it, I have to give the credit to the guys from Korda. Amazingly easy to construct, the KD rig is super effective and definitely amongst my top two rigs of all time.
HOW DO WE BUILD IT?
Several weeks later Loutjie Louwies and I again opted to try out the rig and 27 runs later with 27 fish on the bank, we geared ourselves for England where we managed to win the F.I.P.S.ed World Championships at Linear Fisheries. Loutjie and I won our zone only 30 minutes from the end using the KD rig!
Strip 13cm off a desired length of Camfusion Braid and tie a loop at the end of the stripped portion. I prefer tying a double overhand knot so that the bait can be held by the slightly larger knot. Then add the pop-up, boilie stop and split shot around 2mm from the bait.
Thread the coated portion of the braid through the eye of the hook until the pop-up just touches the bend of the hook. Start tying your normal knotless knot, but lift up the bait after three turns of the braid around the hook and continue turning another three to four turns under the hair before ending the knot.
I normally seal the knot with a little blob of clear nail varnish for a neat finish (don’t tell your wife though). My preferred length for the KD is around 18cm from the eye of the hook.
