THE BLOW-BACK RIG

This awesome rig is number two on my list of all-time favourite rigs. I have had more memorable catches using this rig than any other combination of rigs put together. You must always remember that the rig I choose to use is dependent on the conditions on the lake bed I fish on. Due to the fact that I just happened to be fishing either on sandy or gravelly bottoms dictated the use of either the KD or Blow-back rigs.

The picture tells a thousand words. By looking at the pic you can see the positioning of the rig ring and angle of the shrink tubing.

CONSTRUCTION

Again a very easy rig to construct.

Requirements include:

Size 6 ACE MCS hooks.

15lb coated braid.

Rig Rings.

Shrink tubing

Either a 14mm or 16mm Whafter or bottom bait

Hook bait choice is quite extensive as you can use bottom baits, one bottom bait and one pop-up (to create a snowman rig), sweetcorn, tiger nuts, etc.

Start by cutting a length of coated braid and stripping 16cm of coating. Tie a loop in the stripped section by using a double overhand knot. Position your chosen bait onto the hair, slip on your rig ring and measure the bait-ring configuration by sliding the ring onto the hook and trapping it between the point and barb of the hook. By pulling on the hook link, try to ensure a 5mm gap between the bend of the hook and the bait. Then permanently secure the hair by locking the rig ring with an overhand knot. Now tie a standard knotless knot and finish off with a piece of shrink tube as demonstrated in the picture. End the rig at a desired length around 18-20cm long by tying a double or triple overhand knot.
