Zandfonteln Vaal Dam.

4 bed fishermen's cottages.
Now as nature intended it rains dogs and cats the day we leave to Zandfontein. For people who are familiar with the Vaal farm roads you know you dare not challange those wet roads with a normal car or bakkie like a Hilux or Ford (winck-winck) ...... Now my "Catapillar" Mazda BT 50 with its broad mud tyres was at her happiest. Driving "counter steering" that the mud goes splashing and our trailer looks like a mud clod that we are pulling behind us.
What a beautiful place. Susanna waited on us and properly welcomed us like "guests of honor" and escorted us through two security gates to our fishing cottage where we were welcomed with her generous-broad smile.
What a beautiful place. Feels just like a holiday and I could easily stay here. Sand that makes you miss the ocean. Spotless banks and big waters.
The wooden cabin was comfortable with only the very essentials in. Power and fridge, 4 beds, boiler and essentials like plates and cups. (Ask when booking what you should bring). Each cottage has a barbecue and outdoor table with benches. Lawns lush and cut short. Ablutions spotless and beautiful. Bath, shower, sink and toilets. Playground for the little one. Lapa with pool table and t.v. An ideal place for a "Family reunion". For large families or bookings there is a joint barbecue with chairs
If you are a dead normal bank angler like we are, I suggest you bring a canoe with if you don’t want to be bothered by the little ‘pip squeecks’ the whole day. In the evening you stand on attention with the catfish. Overeaten and in the mood for a fight when it is "hooked".
Our grand total for the day and night were 43 fish. My catfish was the largest weighing 7.7 kg and my husband's carp of 5kg.
Dip :.Garlic and onion mix, caramel and honey brown bread.
Flouties: banana, cinnemon, garlic
